Rachel attended the University of Iowa receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science.  She received her Juris Doctorate with a focus on litigation from Thomas M. Cooley Law School which is now Western Michigan University in 2009. She served as a Student Ambassador assisting incoming law students transitioning into law school. She was also on the law school’s national mock trial team and competed in tournaments in Seattle and Atlanta.

Rachel’s specialties include all aspects of family and criminal law including traffic and Virginia DUI cases. She also possesses extensive experience with Virginia Landlord/Tenant Act law.


Upon her graduation, she secured a position as an Assistant Attorney with the Martinsville Commonwealth Attorney’s Office. She successfully prosecuted various criminal cases. She represented the Commonwealth for Bond Hearings, Pre-Trial Hearings, and Certified Felonies to the Circuit Court.  She successfully prosecuted all types of felony and misdemeanor cases.

She moved to the Hampton Roads area and teamed up with the Legal Aid Society of Eastern Virginia working as a Staff Attorney.  This is where she practiced family law and aggressively litigated, researched and represented her clients in various divorce cases, child custody & support, and spousal support.  She proudly served the community and excels in Family Law. After leaving the Legal Aid Society, she worked at the Smith Law Firm with a focus on family law cases.
