Chamie A. Riley, Esq
Ms. Chamie Riley grew up in a military family where her father served with the US Navy for 30 years. She attended James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia for her undergraduate studies. In 2007, she earned her Juris Doctorate Degree from Regent University School of Law in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Ms. Riley has experience over a wide range of practicing law throughout various parts of Virginia with concentrations in all aspects of family and criminal law. A recent addition to the firm includes real estate contract writing, review and litigation.
In 2015, the American Institute of Family Law Attorneys recognized Chamie A. Riley, as one of the top 10 family law attorneys for client satisfaction in Virginia.
Chamie worked for The Legal Aid Society of Eastern Virginia as a Civil Litigator at Civil Litigations Attorneys. As a civil litigator she counseled, advised, represented, and litigated over 1,000 cases on the Peninsula. She performed trial preparation, research and competently represented her clients individual rights in State and Federal Courts.
Ms. Riley represented clients in Administrative Hearings before the Virginia Employment Commission, the Housing and Redevelopment Authority and HUD. Her various duties there encompassed employment discrimination, employment benefits, employment misconduct, wrongful termination and successfully secured employment benefits for her clientele.
She successfully prepared and helped revise Virginia’s Housing Laws (Code of Federal Regulations Title 24, HUD Housing Handbook, Virginia Residential Landlord Tenant Act). She has successful track of litigating in areas of Tenant and Landlord Rights. Ms. RIley is also credited with preparing Federal and Administrative Policies for the Social Security Commission (SSC), Contract/Consumer Law, and Employment Law (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
Ms. Riley worked as a former Assistant Commonwealth Attorney for York County. As a special prosecutor, she successfully prosecuted domestic violence crimes against women and was a member of the Special Crimes Task Force and the Family Violence Task Force.
She has worked closely with United States Military Police for the Navy, Air Force, Army and Coast Guard to handle joint jurisdictional issues concerning criminal prosecutions.
Ms. Riley’s experience includes Pre-trial Hearings, Bond Hearings, Revocation Hearings, and Transfer Hearings to the Circuit Court. She issued Direct Indictments to the Grand Jury, submitted Petitions for Show Cause Hearings, Writs of Habeas Corpus and aggressively prosecuted all classes of Felonies and Misdemeanors.
Her legal specialty is Family Law encompassing the practice areas of divorce, divorce with military retirement, child custody, child support, and spousal support, foster care, parental rights and juvenile law – particularly in regard to child custody and neglect issues. She is a Certified Guardian Ad Litem for Children by the Virginia Supreme Court. Other areas of her legal expertise include Wills, Trusts, Estates, Fair Housing Laws, Contract Formation, Corporation Entity Formations and Criminal Defense.
Ms. Riley practices law in the Hampton Roads areas with a focus in Newport News, Hampton, York, Gloucester, Williamsburg, Kent, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Isle of Wight, Suffolk and Virginia Beach. She practices law in all Superior and Inferior Courts in Virginia, the Virginia Supreme Court and the US Bankruptcy Court of the Eastern District of Virginia.
She opened her private practice, Riley Law Firm, PLLC in 2011.
